Greidy's father abandoned her and sibblings, leaving them to their mother. She, however, suffers from chronic anemia which causes her to spend the majority of her time in the hospital. Because the children have no one else to help, one of the mother’s sisters has been taking care of the children; she is twelve years old! Each day she does her best to give them lunch, which consists of ONE egg that she scrambles and divides among the three of them. This is their food until the next day, when they will again wait to see if the neighbors provide for them something that can help to dull the gnawing aches they feel in their stomachs. When we brought Greidy (8 years old) to the Home of Refuge, she was a sad little girl who did not smile and her lips were white from anemia. She was also malnourished. In a conversation with her, she told us that she plans to never marry when she grows up because all men are addicts and the mistreat women. She said that she prefers to study and be a professional so that she can care for herself because she does not need a man. This terrible concept that she has of men is a strong clue to us that her father has most likely modeled those behaviors for her. We thank the Lord that there is a Heavenly Father who lifts up the needy from the ash heap, who liberates the captives and who knows how to touch the wounded soul of a little girl that has suffered too much in her short years. Please pray for Greidy to experience this love that burns in the Father’s heart towards her.
