About
Tony and Rosa
Tony and Rosa are the founders of the
Home of Refuge orphanage in Venezuela, which is currently home to 55
children. As parents of seven of their own children and grandparents
of 20, they share a strong love for children and have dedicated
their lives to rescuing the lost, hurting and discarded children of
Venezuela. Though they reside in Florida where Rosa runs the
stateside operation of the orphanage and is pastor of the church out
of which the orphanage was birthed several years ago, Tony’s
responsibilities at the orphanage require him to spend the majority
of his time in Venezuela where his days and nights are spent
rescuing new children, caring for and training the current residents
of the orphanage, and doing all that he can to see that the Home of
Refuge has what it needs to continue operating in an effective
manner. With frequent travel between the two countries, the Rivera’s
reunite every few weeks to enjoy precious time together and to visit
with family and friends in both Venezuela and the States. They share
a burning vision in their hearts to impact the world they live in
with the transforming love of Jesus Christ and have seen God move
powerfully through them to heal and deliver many people. Gifted by
God with a ministry of intercession, Rosa understands the power of
prayer and has traveled within the United States and Venezuela, both
as a featured guest speaker and as her husband’s number one
intercessor. Tony, also a requested speaker, shares a message of
compassion for the unloved. Hearts are moved as he tells the
incredible story of giving up everything in order to save children
from the infested dumps of Maracay, the violence-stricken streets of
Venezuela’s cities, and from underneath its bridges, where children
live and starve and die. The work of rescuing children has been no
easy task. Many times the Rivera’s would have preferred to be
together within the comforts of their own home in Florida,
surrounded by their children and grandchildren. But a constant
reminder is within their hearts and minds—a reminder of the faces of
children wandering in the streets, begging for bread to eat or for
someone to love them and to release them from the nightmares that
they experience even in the daylight hours. This call has motivated
the Rivera’s to continue when it has seemed an impossible task.
Sacrificing together since 1994, they now see the fruit of many
years of labor in Venezuela. Both Tony and Rosa appreciate the
opportunity that the Lord has allowed them to serve in His kingdom
and to be counted worthy of carrying His name to the nations.
